Drawings become
the source of manufacturing.

Equipment design covers mechanics, pneumatics, and electrical systems. We who draw the plans are the source of the Nagoya Plant. Quality, cost, and delivery all begin here.

Q What brought you to MUTSUMI?

I was introduced by a professor in my graduate-school laboratory. A senior student from the neighboring laboratory had joined 1 year earlier, which also gave me confidence. I had always admired design work and felt this was a company where I could do it.

Q What surprised you after joining?

At first I thought it would be mechanical design, but in practice it also requires pneumatic and electrical design, so the scope is broader than I expected. Real situations are more complex than textbook exercises; we think by substituting comparable examples and making assumptions about values.

Q What is interesting about your work?

The feeling of relief when the machine starts moving. I often worry about whether my design is right until it moves, so I feel relieved when it actually operates.

Q How would you describe your current work in a phrase?

The work cannot move forward unless we draw the plans, so I think of us as the source of the Nagoya Plant. Our drawings determine quality and cost, and we must move quickly to meet delivery dates. It is a major responsibility.

Q Which training program left the strongest impression on you?

In an in-house training program called “Asunaro-kai,” we developed a self-driving robot with image recognition. It was the first effort of its kind at the company, and I remember that we set everything from the theme to the goal ourselves and moved forward through trial and error.

Q A message to future colleagues

Going forward, I want to understand existing structures, find better alternatives, and propose my own ideas to customers. Studying seriously will help you in many ways once you enter the working world.
