Connecting the world and manufacturing from a liberal-arts background.

I visited 30 countries as a backpacker while at school. With a humanities background, I became a salesperson who connects customers’ difficulties with in-house technical expertise. Today, I connect with customers overseas through value.

Q What did you do as a student?

I studied business and marketing at university. In my private time, I traveled abroad as a backpacker whenever I had a break. I visited around 30 countries across Asia, North America, Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. Connecting with people overseas broadened my perspective and helps me in my current work.

Q What brought you to MUTSUMI?

When I was job hunting, technical roles were highly valued. I became interested because the headquarters was near my family home, the site was spacious and the company did business overseas. I thought I could apply what I had studied at university, so I aimed for sales from the selection stage.

Q What was challenging as a humanities graduate?

Whether you studied humanities or science, what you need to do after joining is the same, so everyone starts from the same line. I started slightly behind on technical terms, but learned by actively asking senior colleagues and researching on my own. I think my strength is being able to consider things from various angles without fixating on one answer.

Q What do you do?

The job is to understand customers’ needs and difficulties and deliver dies or equipment with new added value. That requires understanding the other party’s position and gathering information. We provide information and draw out the other party’s information; information is a salesperson’s tool.

Q As an international salesperson, how do you handle the language barrier?

It was a great opportunity to learn conversational English through the company's training program. I can now communicate what I want to say with confidence, understand customers' problems and requests, and act on them. I always focus on communicating proactively and building good relationships.

Q A message to future colleagues

It is a flat company without the burdensome entanglements that can come with people, so you can focus on the work. People who want to take on challenges overseas or test their abilities have the chance to make the most of them with the company's support. Come and do your best with us.
