PRESS DIE
What is press die?
-
Press die is a special tool for forming metallic material, which uses the up-and-down movement of press machine.
-
Press die can be separated to upper die and lower die. The upper die is mounted on the slide of the press machine, which moves upwards and downwards, and the lower die is fixed to the bolster of the press machine.
The material is brought between the upper and lower die and formed.
The material can be bulk or sheet. The process forming bulk metal by press is called forging.■ Animation of the press machine and die working

The material can be formed by shearing (blanking, punching), bending and drawing, using press dies, and the desired shape of the product can be achieved through the combination of these forming ways.

The press dies can be classified based on its manufacturing process: single die, progressive die, transfer die etc.
-
The fine blanking die is used in the case that the smooth shear surface and the micrometer accuracy are required.

Classification of press die
-
Progressive die is constructed by several units, each of which is responsible for one process step. Each unit locates at regular intervals in the die.
Coiled material can be directly supplied into the die and the work piece can be formed continuously without cutting away from the sheet material till the last process step.
At the last, the formed product is separated from the sheet material. Therefore, no blank is needed. -
Transfer die consists of some single dies, each of which is responsible for one process step, and singles dies are mounted following the process order.
The material is formed continuously through the transfer die by using the special press (Transfer press). The blank must be produced before the forming process. -
Fine blanking die is designed for precise shearing, which is used to obtain the smooth shear surface and the high accuracy of micrometer.
-
Single die is the simplest press die, by which only one process can be performed.
It is necessary to supply the material to the die manually.
