TRANSFER DIE
What is transfer die?
-
Transfer die consists of some single dies, each of which is responsible for one process step, and singles dies are mounted following the process order.
The work piece is formed while passing through each single die. The work piece is transferred from the die to the die by finger, which is a tool with claw mounted at the feed bar of the press machine.
-
The motion of the finger
- @ grab a work piece
- A carry the work piece to the next die
- B release the work piece
- C return to the original position
should be operated simultaneously with the press motion, and through this, the forming process can be performed continuously. Therefore the specialized press machine(Transfer press machine) has to be used.
■ Animation of work piece transfer by finger in transfer die
-
High skills are required to design transfer die compare to single die, because the positioning of work piece at each process step and the interference between a die and fingers have to be well considered.
Transfer die is suitable for mass production due to its capability of continuous production.
Through the production by transfer die the material utilization can be improved compared to the one by progressive die, although SPM* decreases.
*SPM: Shot per minute (SPM) shows how many products can be formed in every minute. This indicates production capacity.
