What is progressive die?

Progressive die is constructed by several units, each of which is responsible for one process step.

Each unit locates at regular intervals in the die.

Coiled material can be directly supplied into the die and the material can be formed continuously without cutting away from the sheet material till the last process step.

At the last, the formed product is separated from the sheet material.

Coiled material … coiled sheet metal

Uncoiler … an equipment which uncoils coiled material

Leveller … an equipment which corrects curl of coiled material

Feeder … an equipment which supplies the sheet material to the press machine
By using progressive die SPM* increases, thus progressive die is suitable for mass production.

The process through progressive die, however, leads bad material utilization, and requires higher skill and more experience to design compared to the one through transfer die or single die.

*SPM: Shot per minute (SPM) shows how many products can be formed or produced in a minute. This indicates production capacity.
